REHABILITATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH AMPUTATIONS SINCE 1990
Limb loss is a large global problem. In the US alone, approximately 185,000 amputations are performed each year and more than two million people are currently living with limb loss. Since ancient times, socket prostheses have been used to replace missing body parts. However, socket prostheses are associated with several drawbacks, such as sores, pain and discomfort. Further, users of socket prostheses report that they are unable to move freely and prefer not to use them because of all the problems. The Integrum OPRA Implant System is a bone-anchored system based on osseointegration, where the prostheses are directly attached to the bone, thereby avoiding the use of a socket. The system is clinically well tested and, since 1990, it has helped more than 400 individuals to improve their quality of life.
