I became an amputee due to vascular disease in 2010 and stayed in the hospital for about three months. I had great staff that was dedicated and took the time to assist, help, encourage and support me. Also, I had calls from Certified Peer Visitors to support me on my road to recovery. My family helped after discharge and I had physical therapy in my home. Later on I was able to go from a wheelchair, to walker, crutches one crutch, and finally a cane. I have been able to do many adaptive sports, and that along with help from my prosthetist has kept me mobile. If you have the right attitude and stay focused and positive, you can do what you need to do.
