ATTENTION ACUTE REHAB FACILITIES!!
Do you ever care for amputees? Are you looking to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as either an Amputee Specialty or Non-Specialty Program? If so, don’t reinvent the wheel, partner with ACA for the tools and materials you need to comply with CARF’s standards for patient support education.
In fall 2006, the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) and international representatives from all the disciplines involved in the care of People with Limb Loss (PWLL) were asked to participate on an International Standards Advisory Committee (ISAC) with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Our purpose was to help develop and release the first-ever standards of care for addressing the needs of PWLL in comprehensive integrated inpatient, outpatient, and home and community-based rehabilitation programs.
These standards are in effect as of January 1, 2008. Two sets of standards for accreditation are provided. One is for facilities seeking accreditation to become Amputation Specialty Programs, and the other is for organizations that treat PWLL but that are not seeking accreditation as an Amputation Specialty Program. These standards were developed to raise the bar for consistent comprehensive care of PWLL and reflect the need for comprehensive education, connection to appropriate resources, and increased prevention of limb loss.
The ACA is available as your resource link to help you provide your patients with materials and support.
