Amputee Coalition Fighting to Improve Insurance Coverage for Prosthetic Devices in CA Insurance Marketplace

Web Administration LimbLine Articles

The Amputee Coalition is working with the California Orthotic and Prosthetic Alliance (COPA) and the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) in California to ensure the 2017 benchmark plan that is selected for the California Insurance Marketplace provides coverage for prosthetic and custom orthotic devices.

Currently, California’s benchmark plan covers prosthetic devices, but only for certain situations, and does not appear to cover prosthetic limbs. The Amputee Coalition has submitted this letter to encourage the California Assembly to change the benchmark plan to a plan that provides coverage for prosthetic and custom orthotic devices. We’ve reached out to our members in California to get involved and we are hopeful that the California Assembly will make the necessary changes to their benchmark plan to ensure amputees in California are provided access to essential coverage for prosthetic and custom orthotic devices.

Check back in each issue of our e-newsletter for more updates on this and other legislative issues, and visit https://www.amputee-coalition.org to find out more ways to get involved. If you’re going to the Amputee Coalition National Conference, sessions are available to show you how you can get involved and be a better advocate for yourself and for the limb loss community.
