Endolite is a part of the Blatchford Group, which has been making artificial limbs and prosthetic components since 1890. As one of the oldest prosthetic manufacturers, biomimetic engineering is at the heart of Endolite’s design philosophy, where we believe the best prostheses replicate the dynamic and adaptive qualities of natural human gait and motion.
In 1980, Endolite developed the world’s first carbon fiber prosthetic system, using materials developed for the aircraft industry. This technology made it possible for Endolite to create light, high-strength prosthetic designs, and paved the way for the development of flexible feet and shin elements that create additional energy return to enhance walking and sports activities. More recently, this design approach led to Echelon, the world’s first commercial-scale hydraulic ankle/foot, and the subsequent development of Endolite’s award-winning, clinically proven range, culminating with Elan, which is among the most sophisticated microprocessor-controlled feet available today.
This design approach is also evident in our range of award-winning microprocessor-controlled knees, beginning with the 1993 release of the first commercial-scale microprocessor knee, the IP, adapted to changes in walking speeds. Further developments included the introduction of smart programming, followed by the Orion, featuring a hybrid cylinder, providing microprocessor-controlled swing and stance resistance. Our latest achievement, Linx, is the world’s first fully integrated microprocessor-controlled limb system. Working in unison, the foot and knee provide unsurpassed performance on some of life’s most challenging terrains.
Enhancing quality of life and health for amputees through research, design and innovation is our commitment, and has been for over 125 years. We remain inspired and driven to innovate, each time coming one step closer to that intended by nature. For more information, visit http://www.endolite.com/
REHABILITATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH AMPUTATIONS SINCE 1990
Limb loss is a large global problem. In the US alone, approximately 185,000 amputations are performed each year and more than two million people are currently living with limb loss. Since ancient times, socket prostheses have been used to replace missing body parts. However, socket prostheses are associated with several drawbacks, such as sores, pain and discomfort. Further, users of socket prostheses report that they are unable to move freely and prefer not to use them because of all the problems. The Integrum OPRA Implant System is a bone-anchored system based on osseointegration, where the prostheses are directly attached to the bone, thereby avoiding the use of a socket. The system is clinically well tested and, since 1990, it has helped more than 400 individuals to improve their quality of life.
