September | October 2021 4 THRIVE is the theme of this issue of inMotion . I couldn’t think of a better theme for the September/October issue. This September/October we are hosting our 36th annual Amputee Coalition National Conference. October is also National Disability Employment Awareness month. Two great events to help the members of our community thrive. In this edition of the magazine, we cover a lot of topics related to the theme of thrive. We have updates on three of our core programs that support those living with limb loss and limb difference. One of our younger members tells her inspiring story of perseverance in meeting her goal of thriving and becoming an occupational therapist. Conference attendees share their stories of the lifelong relationships they have made through attending conference. You’ll also read about resources and programs available to help you thrive in school and in the workplace. The limb loss community knows how to adapt and thrive, and, over the past 18 months, all of us are (again) finding new ways to thrive in our lives and in our communities. The Coalition is also focused on new ways to thrive. For an organization, what does thriving look like? It MESSAGE FROM THE Quotes from 2020 Amputee Coalition National Conference This was great, so much better than I thought it would be. I Like that the sessions we couldn’t attend will be available until the end of the year. Kudos to the Ac staff for all their hard work, and adapting to this COVID environment. It is really important that a virtual aspect of the AC conference is available for those who cannot afford to travel, or are physically not well enough to travel. The virtual conference can provide vital information to those folks and give them a taste of a live conference by showing them the importance of connecting with others facing same or similar circumstances. It is SO important to help those with limb loss across the country (and the World) not feel isolated and alone!!! I am very impressed with the ability of the Coalition staff and community leaders to prove themselves nimble during the COVID crisis and make the 2020 Conference available to a large number of attendees. Great job! We ARE adaptive! So proud of the AC for pulling off the virtual event and allowing access for more amputees to the events than ever before!! Happy to be a part of it all. Thank you for the effort you put into bringing us a virtual conference. You all did an exceptional job during extraordinary circumstances putting this conference together. You are all to be commended! I am pleased that the virtual nature allowed so many new people to participate. I especially liked that I could go back and view sessions that I had missed because I couldn’t attend due to another conflict.
