On July 12 we will be holding the opening ceremony for our 2018 National Conference. The Amputee Coalition’s first gatherings occurred in 1986 and numbered fewer than 50 people. Today, the attendees numbers top 1,000 and the events include educational session, technology demonstrations, a Support Group Summit and the launch of the 50 States Advocacy project.
For the first time, this year’s program also includes multiple movies. The first is a special advance screening of Universal Pictures film Skyscraper on Wednesday evening. In it, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays an action hero with limb loss, creating the opportunity to talk about the portrayal and enjoy a special evening. The movie and transportation are complimentary, and buses start loading at the conference hotel at 7:15 in the lobby.
Complementing this film will be STUMPED!, an award-winning documentary that tells the story of Will Lautzenheiser. It tells the story of his limb loss, arm transplants, and the support of his partner Angel his family and medical team as he redefines his identify and forges a new path. STUMPED! Screens on Friday night at 8:30pm in Tucson E at the Conference Hotel, the Marriott Starr Pass Resort.
In addition, Ossur has sponsored Saddle Up, an outing to Old Tucson, a western movie set. It includes dinner and the chance to walk in the footsteps of movie greats like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood and transportation is included. This event is limited to the first 100 attendees, and the buses will load at 5pm on Friday from the lobby in the hotel.
All of these events are at no additional cost to attendees, and we would like to thank the supporters for their generosity.
