State Outlook
The Amputee Coalition will focus on ensuring fair insurance coverage for prosthetics provided through Medicaid. We are actively seeking advocates to support these efforts.
Legislative Activity
The Connecticut General Assembly passed Insurance Fairness for Amputee legislation in 2018. SB376 passed unanimously through both chambers of the legislature and was signed into law by Governor Dannel Malloy (D) on May 25th, 2018.
State Government Information
The Democratic Party controls both chambers of the State Legislature and the Office of the Governor.
Connecticut’s State Legislature works on a two year cycle. Session runs from January until June in the first year and from February until May in the second.
The Office of Governor has an election every four years that coincides with Congressional Mid-Term Elections. The next election will be held in 2022. An individual elected to the Office of the Governor can only serve one term. The Governor is responsible for signing legislation into law and granting formal proclamations, such as Limb Loss Awareness Month.
The Connecticut Department of Insurance is a state department falling under the executive branch of Connecticut’s government. The Governor appoints the Commissioner of Insurance to observe the oversight of the insurance industry. The Department provides information about insurance payment reforms and the ability to file a complaint against an insurance provider.
