After months of chemotherapy I went to a new doctor in NYC . The first thing she asked was whether I accept that I needed to lose my right foot as the cancerous tumor was in my ankle . I said no. Then she asked whether I resigned to losing it and I said yes.

She gave examples of two people had the operation and that they were now using artificial limbs. I then met the surgeon and we agreed we would have the operation to remove the foot below the knee. Ironically, the surgery was carried out on St. Patrick’s Day, his name was Patrick, and I am half Irish. What I found interesting is that the body part has to go to the mortuary and is then used in cancer research with rats for new forms of chemotherapy drugs.

I have now started therapy and am waiting to meet the prosthetist to have the shrinker fitted and start the process to get my new artificial leg.
