Pain in Infants, Children, and Adolescents / Charles B. Berde, Neil L. Schechter, and Myron Yaster, eds. 2nd ed. Philadelphia: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2003. This text discusses pain, pain treatment, and unique pain problems that occur in infants, children, and adolescents.

 

Pain Management in Rehabilitation / Martin Grabois and Trilok N. Monga, eds. New York, NY: Demos Medical Pub., 2002. This book provides information about the diagnosis and management of various pain syndromes in patients with disabling diseases.

 

Personality Characteristics of Patients With Pain / Robert J. Gatchel and James N. Weisberg, eds. Washington, DC: American Psychological Association, 2000. This book presents a comprehensive review of the personality factors that affect the experience of, and adaptation to, pain. Recrafting a Life: Solutions for Chronic Pain and Illness / Charlie Johnson and Denise Webster. New York: Brunner-Routledge, 2002. Johnson and Webster look at Solution-Focused Brief Therapy as a way to help those with chronic pain and illness "recraft" their life.

 

Surgical Management of Pain / edited by Kim Burchiel. New York: Thieme, 2002. This book is a review of the entire field of neurosurgical pain management. Topics covered include: pain neuroanatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, new procedures that minimize invasiveness and postoperative neurological deficiencies, and the entire scope of surgical and medical management of pain.

 

The Truth About Chronic Pain: Patients and Professionals on How to Face It, Understand It, Overcome It / Arthur Rosenfeld. New York: Basic Books, 2003. This book looks at the factors that prevent pain patients from getting the relief they need. These factors include insurance company limits, misconceptions about “toughing it out,” and fears of painkiller addiction. Thirty-six authorities on pain, including patients, healthcare professionals, ethicists, social commentators, and scientists, all contribute to this book.
