Disability doesn’t equal disabled, nor does amputation automatically mean the end of an active life. High-tech advances in prosthetics and rehabilitation methods are now enabling more and more amputees to return to participation in sports.

Walter Reed has selected Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) as the lead agency in providing sports and recreation opportunities to help military amputees focus on their abilities, speed their recovery, and regain their self-confidence and mobility skills. With the cooperation of other organizations, such as the Wounded Warrior Project (www.dsusa.org/WoundedWarrior.html) and the Adaptive Sports Foundation (www.adaptivesportsfoundation.org), DSUSA provides opportunities for military amputees to try a variety of sports.
