Each day 507 people lose a limb, largely due to vascular-related diseases, and 60 percent are preventable, according to the Knoxville-based Amputee Coalition. To raise awareness on limb loss prevention, the national nonprofit organization will be holding Limb Loss Awareness Day April 12 on Market Square in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

SNOW BLOWERS POSE DANGEROUS RISK FOR AMPUTATIONS

The Amputee Coalition of America urges safety when operating snow blowers this winter. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in a recent year, almost 600 finger amputations occurred due to improper operation of snow blowers or snow throwers.
