Where are gifts to the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) directed?
Gifts to the Amputee Coalition are used to support education, outreach, research and advocacy through the Amputee Coalition’s programs and activities.
Where do gifts come from?
The ACA’s work is funded primarily through generous support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), distinguished foundations, companies and individuals. These sources enable us to advance research, increase public awareness and advocate on behalf of people affected by limb loss. This funding also helps provide benefits, such as scholarships and education, and helps support the ACA’s National Limb Loss Information Center.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
The ACA is a nonprofit corporation exempt from federal income taxation under IRC 501(c)(3). Donations are tax-deductible for United States citizens. Donors outside of the United States should consult with their tax advisor about whether donations will be tax-deductible.
Can I choose a specific ACA program or activity to support?
Absolutely. You may donate directly to any of the programs or activities listed on our Areas of Greatest Need page. The ACA will use donations given to a specific program to fund activities related to that program. If the Board of Directors is unable to find suitable activities to fund for a program or if a project becomes inactive or otherwise becomes ineligible to receive funds, the ACA may use any directed donation for other purposes.
How do I make a gift in someone's memory?
If you're making a gift by cash or check, you can mail your gift to:
Amputee Coalition of America/Development
900 E. Hill Avenue, Suite 205
Knoxville, TN 37915-2566
Simply indicate in a note the name of the person you wish to memorialize.
You can also make a gift in someone's honor or memory by using our secure online gift form.
In addition to sending an acknowledgment to you, we are happy to send notification of your gift (without amount) if you give us the name and address of the person to be notified.
Does the ACA need my donation?
Yes. To promote the Amputee Coalition’s goals, we need more people involved in and engaged with us. Not everyone has the time to participate in programs or project activities like peer visitation or volunteer community outreach. However, by donating to the ACA, not only can you support current activities, you can also help determine which activities we undertake in the future. We learn what activities and programs you want to support by soliciting donations and providing ways for you to indicate how you would like those donations to be used. With your input, we can match that support accordingly.
We also believe it's important for people who participate in ACA programs or activities to be able to build their own communities of support. Support may be participating in a particular program or making a financial contribution to it. Your donations can help such programs undertake new activities to better serve their users.
Your donations will not only enable us to continue our current activities that support our goals and yours, but will also allow us to develop new programs that will support the limb loss community today and tomorrow.
What is a matching gift?
Companies provide financial support through employee matching gift programs. These companies match their employees' donations to nonprofit organizations, enabling their employees to multiply their support by doubling or, in some cases, tripling employee gifts. Matching gifts can be made through cash or pledges. Find out if your company has a matching gift program and create a matching gift to the Amputee Coalition of America today.
