The Amputee Coalition provides the following list for amputees within and outside of the United States who are seeking assistance and information related to limb loss. A Starting PlaceOrthotics & Prosthetics Humanitarian DatabaseThe Digital Resource Foundation for the O&P Community (DRFOP), a nonprofit organization, maintains the Orthotics & Prosthetics Humanitarian Database, a central source of information about worldwide humanitarian efforts in the orthotics and prosthetics community. This database is probably the most comprehensive link to assistance resources available for amputees outside of the United States. Arnold Frank Foundation World Limb BankThe World Limb Bank provides the global, Web-based infrastructure for sharing information between suppliers and users of donated prosthetic resources. Barr Foundation Amputee Assistance FundThe Fund is administered by the Barr Foundation in Boca Raton, Florida, and coordinated by local and foreign prosthetists. The "Fund" will pay for materials and fitting of a new prosthesis after financial need has been established by the prosthetists. To establish that need, the amputee and prosthetist would need to show there are no other sources of funding available. To apply for the funding the prosthetist and amputee will complete application forms which will then be reviewed and verified by a committee of professionals. Bowman Siciliano Limb Bank FoundationThe Bowman Siciliano Limb Bank Foundation acts as a ready resource for artificial limbs for those in need. It is a nonprofit organization seeking to fulfill the need for artificial limbs in underdeveloped nations and here in the United States where traditional funding is unavailable. Center for International RehabilitationThe CIR develops prosthetic devices, wheelchairs and rehabilitation techniques that lower the cost and improve accessibility of care for people with disabilities in low-income countries. Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO)It is the vision of CAMO to be a leader in providing and integrating safe medical equipment, related medical education, volunteer trainers and community development to Central America. They work in partnership with their developing country counterparts to identify and implement all programs. Challenged Athletes FoundationThe Challenged Athletes Foundation raises money to help people with physical disabilities pursue an active lifestyle through physical fitness and competitive athletics. Direct Relief InternationalSince 1948, Direct Relief International has worked to improve the quality of life for people in need. They focus on health – by providing essential material resources to locally run health programs in poor areas around the world and during times of disaster. Disabled Peoples' InternationalDisabled Peoples' International is a network of national organizations, established to promote human rights of disabled people through full participation, equal opportunity and development. Doctors Without BordersDoctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, or exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries. Free Wheelchair MissionWorldwide there are over 100,000,000 disabled adults and children for whom the dream of a wheelchair is worlds beyond their expectations. Free Wheelchair Mission is working to make these dreams a reality. Their vision: to deliver 20 million wheelchairs by 2010. The Global Medical Relief FundThe non-profit, non-partisan Global Medical Relief Fund aids children who are missing or have lost the use of limbs, have been severely burned, or have been injured due to war, natural disaster or illness. Since its founding in 1997, GMRF has brought 90 children to the U.S. for treatment, surgery and prosthetic limb fittings. Handicap International UKHandicap International strives to intervene as rapidly as possible in favor of the handicapped and the most vulnerable populations wherever and whenever armed conflict has destroyed existing systems of assistance and solidarity. Similar assistance is also made available in countries where there are severe economic problems, or where the association’s expertise in prevention and socio-economic development is requested. International Center for Disability Resources on the Internet (ICDRI)ICDRI’s mission includes the collection of a knowledge base of quality disability resources and best practices and to provide education, outreach and training based on these core resources. International Committee of the Red CrossThe ICRC is a Swiss-based humanitarian organization. Its principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence enable its members to protect and assist victims of armed conflict on all sides. International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC)IDDC is a self-managing group of 23 international non-government organizations supporting disability and development work in over 100 countries. International Medical CorpsInternational Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through healthcare training and relief and development programs. International Rescue CommitteeAt work in 40 countries, the IRC delivers lifesaving aid in emergencies, rebuilds shattered communities, cares for war-traumatized children, rehabilitates healthcare, water and sanitation systems, reunites separated families, restores lost livelihoods, establishes schools, trains teachers, strengthens the capacity of local organizations and supports civil society and good-governance initiatives. International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO)This multidisciplinary organization is comprised of persons who have a professional interest in the clinical, educational and research aspects of prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation engineering and related topics. Leonard Cheshire InternationalLeonard Cheshire International, the largest provider of services for disabled people in the UK, also extends to 57 countries worldwide and includes projects in education, employment, economic empowerment, rehabilitation and daycare services, residential care and community programs. Limbs for Life FoundationLimbs for Life is a nationwide not-for-profit organization that has dedicated itself to the purpose of providing comfortable and fully-functional prosthetic care for individuals, in the United States and abroad, who cannot otherwise afford it. Limbs of Hope FoundationThe Limbs of Hope Foundation, founded in October 2003, is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the needs of amputees throughout the world. Through their various programs, they believe that we can reach our goal of improving the quality of life for those affected by limb loss. Mobility International USAFor over 29 years, MIUSA has empowered people with disabilities around the world through international exchange and development to achieve their human rights. The Polus CenterIn 1997, the Polus Center entered into the international arena by coordinating humanitarian efforts in Central America aimed at addressing the long-term needs of people with disabilities, particularly those individuals who lost limbs due to acts of war, landmines and diseases. Several prosthetic outreach programs and clinics have been established, and access and mobility projects have been implemented in Central America and Africa. Prosthetics Outreach FoundationProsthetics Outreach Foundation (POF) is dedicated to restoring mobility and independence worldwide to amputees and other disadvantaged persons suffering from orthopedic disabilities. We focus our efforts on developing countries to help those with the greatest needs to walk again. Currently, we work primarily in Vietnam, Bangladesh and Sierra Leone. ROMP-Range of Motion ProjectROMP’s mission is to provide no-cost prosthetic limbs and orthotic braces to those who cannot afford or do not have access to these services, thereby empowering them to contribute to their families and communities. SHIA - Swedish Organizations of Disabled Persons International Aid AssociationThrough partnership between people with disabilities in Sweden and in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern and Central Europe, SHIA aims to contribute toward achieving full participation, equality and respect for human rights. United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)UNICEF works in 19 countries to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination present to children of the world. Wheels for HumanityThey recycle wheelchairs; they deliver and personally fit them, at no cost, to children and adults in developing countries. They work with local healthcare workers in villages and towns to identify those in greatest need of help. With a volunteer team of healthcare professionals, physical / occupational therapists and rehabilitation seating specialists, each recipient is matched to the wheelchair that best fits his or her needs.
