FEMA Provides Youth-Based Technical Assistance Workshops
Leading educators and scholars in the field of preparedness education consider our nation's youth to be the best envoy for taking preparedness messages home to their families. In order to better prepare our nation's youth to bring preparedness home, FEMA is providing technical assistance workshops to state and local practitioners who support youth-based programs and who are interested in integrating preparedness education into their offerings. 

As part of these workshops, participants hear from experts who have developed and delivered some of the most successful youth preparedness programs across the country. In discussing their programs, they also emphasize the following:

OFFICE MANAGER

Overall Job Description: NACDD is seeking a fulltime Office Manager to oversee the day to day business operations of its downtown Washington, DC office. The Office Manager maintains information technology systems; ensures prompt payment of invoices; assists in budgeting process; performs accounts receivable; prepares invoices and reporting for government-funded grant; processes dues payments; negotiates with vendors for purchase, leasing and maintenance of equipment; inventories and maintains supplies; processes payroll; maintains contact databases; sends NACDD meeting notices; prepares correspondence, reports and some presentation materials; assembles and distributes Board of Director meeting binders and related materials; assists with meeting and conference planning and implementation. The Office Manager reports to the Executive Director and works closely with a small staff team, including part time administrative support staff.

Required Knowledge and Skills: Strong organizational, communication and administrative skills, with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, spread sheet, and database applications; knowledge of or ability to learn QuickBooks; Knowledge of meeting planning; ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously; strong writing and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a flexible, team-based, fast paced environment.

Preferred but not Required Knowledge and Skills: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

The Rehabilitation Medicine Department (RMD) seeks to recruit a full time, research oriented, Chief of Physical Therapy.  The Chief position offers a unique opportunity to lead a dynamic team of 12 physical therapists and other professionals, while training the next generation of clinical practitioners.  The position also offers an unparalleled opportunity to help shape the NIH research agenda as well as initiate new research programs.

This position resides within the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center, a newly constructed, state of the art, 250 bed biomedical research hospital, which treats both inpatients and outpatients.  Diagnostic populations include those with cancer, neurological disorders, infectious diseases, genetic and developmental disorders and mental health conditions. 

The qualified candidate should possess 5 or more years of experience in medical rehabilitation, including: administration (staff supervision, strategic planning, and program development), clinical care and research. Individuals must demonstrate strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills for adult and pediatric populations in the areas of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.  Current license to practice Physical Therapy is required.

PROGRAM MANAGER, FAMILY INVOLVEMENT

Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This 50% part-time position supports and assists the Associate Director for Workforce and Leadership Development, Family Involvement in the development, implementation and evaluation of program activities related to family involvement and leadership development. The Program Manager will also assist in implementing project activities related to children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) impacting CYSHCN, birth defects and disabilities and early childhood.

Principal duties

  1. Assist as a member of a team in the management of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s (MCHB) Cooperative Agreement in the following activities:
    • Planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating cooperative agreement activities;
    • Developing proposals, progress reports and updates;
    • Participating in planning and coordinating meetings/conference calls with other national organizations and MCHB;
    • Providing and documenting technical assistance to state health agencies in support of project activities;
    • Conducting necessary research based on written surveys, phone interviews, analysis of existing national and state reports and other methodologies;
    • Preparing policy briefs, fact sheets and other documents on issues of importance related to family involvement and CYSHCN;
    • Participating in the development and implementation of meetings, forums and other skills building opportunities (i.e. annual conference) for information sharing and exchange.
    • Provide communications support for family involvement and leadership activities, including organizing conference calls, maintaining listservs and updating content on the AMCHP web site, and preparing memos, surveys, fact sheets, newsletter articles and web site development for member distribution. 
  2. Assume lead staff role for the implementation and evaluation of the Family Scholars Program as well as for family activities at the AMCHP Annual Conference.
  3. Assist the Director of Programs and the Associate Director, Workforce Development and Leadership, Family Involvement to develop and implement project work plans for family involvement and leadership development.
  4. Assist the Director of Programs and Program Manager, CYSHCN to implement State Public Health Coordinating Center for Autism project activities and other relevant CYSHCN and birth defects projects.
  5. Support establishment and maintenance of strategic relationships with key national groups and federal agencies in support of cooperative agreement activities; represent AMCHP at national task forces, work groups, coalitions, and federal advisory groups; make public presentations on behalf of AMCHP.
  6. National partnership activities: work with federal and national partners to further the mission of AMCHP’s MCHB and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Cooperative Agreements and represent AMCHP membership in support of the cooperative agreements.
  7. Provide staff support to the Family and Youth Leadership Committee, as well as other AMCHP committees, regional directors and project work groups.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge
General knowledge of public health theory, policy and practice. Knowledge of maternal and child health, and CYSHCN; basic knowledge of public health infrastructure at the state/federal/local level as it relates to issues affecting women, children, CYSHCN, and their families. Knowledge of federal health financing and service delivery programs (such as Medicaid and SCHIP) as well as knowledge of private health systems and managed care entities.

Skills
Demonstrated experience in basic research, project management, implementation and evaluation. Excellent verbal and written communication, including reports and public presentations, and organizational skills are essential. Experience in group facilitation, professional presentations as well as evaluation are encouraged. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook), and Internet.

Abilities
Requires the ability to work independently and in a team environment; ability to develop and manage several projects concurrently; and ability to represent AMCHP at national, state and local organizations and groups. Ability to apply professional and technical knowledge and skills about children and youth with special health care needs. Ability to relate to family members of children and youth with special health care needs. Ability to travel as needed.

Education and Experience
Knowledge, skills and abilities typically required through a Master’s degree or certification in public health, or other related health or human services field but three to four years of direct professional experience may be substituted for the degree. Understanding of the needs of families of CYSHCN or direct experience working with families of CYSHCN is desired. Family member of a child or adult with special health care needs is desired. Experience working in a public health association or health department (local, state, or federal) is desired but not required.
