The Amputee Coalition is pleased to announce its 2016 officers and board of directors. Serving in 2016 are: Jack Richmond* of Cleveland, Tennessee as chairman of the board; Michael Estrada* of Statesville, North Carolina is chair-elect; John “Mo” Kenney* of Lexington, Kentucky is vice-chair; Dennis Fields* of Vienna, Virginia is treasurer; David Sanders of Washington, D.C. is secretary; Dan Berschinski* of Stanford, California is immediate past chair. Each officer will serve for a one-year term.
“As the Amputee Coalition enters its 30th year, I appreciate the vote of confidence I have been given and I am honored to serve as chairman of the board,” said Jack Richmond. “As a board and as an organization, we are dedicated to serving the limb loss community and to ensuring that the Amputee Coalition is responsive to the needs of people affected by limb loss. We have made much progress in the first 29 years. We are looking forward to providing service, guidance and inspiration for the future.”
Jack Richmond, CPOA, is the director of sales for Fillauer, Inc. He also chairs the Amputee Coalition’s Education and Conference (EdCon) Committee. Jack has supported limb loss education since an accident in 1987 that led to the amputation of his leg below the knee. He has been involved with the Amputee Coalition since 1992, when he attended his first conference. Jack is a past president of United Amputee Services, the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation and the Barr Foundation, where he continues to serve on their board. Jack’s desire to stay active after his amputation helped him to return to competitive cycling and begin endurance running. He ran his first marathon in 1999 and has since completed five marathons, including Boston, New York and Chicago. He and his wife Laurie, also an amputee, became coaches for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Team in Training” program. Jack and Laurie live in Cleveland, Tennessee.
The board of directors is the governing body responsible to the public for the Amputee Coalition’s mission and effectiveness. The board is responsible to establishing the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring accountability nationwide.
Continuing on the Amputee Coalition board are: Brandon Dale of Paradise Valley, Arizona; Leslie Pitt Schneider* of Phoenix, Arizona; Dennis Strickland* of Atlanta, Georgia; Ron Drach* of Potomac, Maryland; and the Amputee Coalition’s medical director, Terrence Sheehan, MD, of Rockville, Maryland.
