Amputee Coalition of America
President and CEO
Hello. Welcome to the Amputee Coalition of America Web site.
We hope that you will take the time to become familiar with our site and with the wealth of information we have to offer.
Whether you are living with limb loss or limb differences yourself, know someone who is, or are simply trying to gather useful information, please know that you have a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of the more than 1.7 million people who are living with limb loss or limb differences.
It's easy to make a difference in the lives of those with limb loss or limb differences through this Web site. You can join the Amputee Coalition of America as a member, volunteer, make an online donation, sponsor a child to attend our youth camp, join our advocacy efforts, or share your fundraising ideas.
If you are a healthcare provider, you have a special gift to offer through your relationships with your patients and your opportunity to guide them to this Web site and our organization for ongoing support and education.
If you are a corporate leader who has an interest in limb loss and limb-loss prevention, you too can play an important role by ensuring that your company’s insurance plan provides adequate coverage for the needs of your employees and their families who may experience limb loss.
For those who think that limb loss may never happen to them or their loved ones, know that approximately 185,000 people have an upper- or lower-limb amputation each year. Of those, more than 600 are children who are involved in lawn mower accidents. In addition, more than 1,000 children are born each year with congenital limb differences. A large number of limb-loss events are due to diabetes, cancer or vascular problems. The good news is that many of these limb-loss situations can be prevented through education, access to adequate healthcare, and proper treatment. To make this happen, however, we need people like you to help us expand our education efforts.
By joining in our efforts to prevent limb loss and to support those who have limb loss or limb differences, you too can make a difference.
We hope that you will find this site useful, will learn more about what is happening in the limb-loss community, and will join us in our quest to reduce limb loss and help those with limb differences live full, productive and bountiful lives.
Sincerely,

Kendra Calhoun
President and CEO
