State Prosthetic Parity Campaign: BREAKING NEWS! Governor Nixon signed HB 577 - an act changing regulations for insurance, including an amendment requiring coverage for prosthetic parity on Monday, July 13, 2009. This makes Missouri the 17th state to enact prosthetic parity and the sixth just this year! We would like to thank the Missouri Coalition for People with Limb Loss. Without their efforts and determination this would not have been possible.
Background: We are working with the Missouri Coalition for People with Limb Loss to advance legislation in 2009. SB 320 and HB 616 have both passed out of committee and are awaiting votes on the House and Senate floors. Please contact your Representative and Senator today and urge them to support these two important bills!
For more information about the state efforts, contact us at 202/742-1885 or state@amputee-coalition.org. You can also reach out to the local campaign committee by contacting Jean Freeman at roadkingtrike@yahoo.com.
In 2008, Rep. Cooper (R) filed House Bill No. 2100. Rep. Avery (R) co-sponsored the bill. It was passed out of the House Committee on Health Insurance. There was a strong grassroots campaign, however, due to time constraints it does not look like the bill will pass this year.
Other Advocacy Issues: While parity is a big priority for the ACA’s advocacy team, we have recently been involved in a number of issues advocating on behalf of people with limb loss and limb difference. Is there a bill or issue in your state that we need to know about? Contact us at state@amputee-coalition.org.
The ACA is also working hard to pass federal parity legislation in order to extend protections for health plans regulated by Congress (about half of all policies). Get informed by visiting our federal parity page.
Help keep up the fight for parity and protect the health and rights of amputees throughout the country! Whether you can give $5, $50 or $500 we need your financial support!! Write a check to the “Amputee Coalition of America” and send it to: ACA, 300 East Hill Ave, Suite 205, Knoxville, TN, 37915 or make a donation online on our secure marketplace at: www.amputee-coalition.org/advocacy/donation.
