State Prosthetic Parity Campaign:  House Bill 411 and Senate Bill 326 have been introduced in the 2009 session!  HB 411 was introduced by Representative Vance, and referred to the Banking and Insurance Committee.  SB 326 was introduced by Senators Little (Z), Smitherman, Means, Penn, Mitchell, Coleman, Bedford, Butler, Barron, Sanders, and Mitchem and was referred to the Government Affairs Committee.  We are awaiting hearing assignments.  In the meantime, urge your local representatives to support these bills.  To find out who your representatives are, click here.

In 2008, HB 375 was referred to the Banking & Insurance Committee.  They heard the bill on February 20th.  It passed out of the committee with one amendment clarifying the language concerning DME deductibles.  The bill went to the Senate. The Alabama legislature adjourned before the bill made it out of the Senate.  We will work to get it though in 2009.

We started working with the Alabama O&P Association in 2007 to advance legislation.  If you would like to find out how you can help, contact us at state@amputee-coalition.org or 202/742-1885.  You can also contact Glenn Crumpton at 334/284-0250 or glenn@aalos.com.

Other Advocacy Issues:  While parity is a big priority for the ACA’s advocacy team, we have recently been involved in a number of issues advocating on behalf of people with limb loss and limb difference.  Is there a bill or issue in your state that we need to know about?  Contact us at state@amputee-coalition.org

The ACA is also working hard to pass federal parity legislation in order to extend protections for health plans regulated by Congress (about half of all policies).  Get informed by visiting our federal parity page

Help keep up the fight for parity and protect the health and rights of amputees throughout the country!  Whether you can give $5, $50 or $500 we need your financial support!!  Write a check to the “Amputee Coalition of America” and send it to: ACA, 300 East Hill Ave, Suite 205, Knoxville, TN, 37915 or make a donation online on our secure marketplace at: www.amputee-coalition.org/advocacy/donation.
