The Oklahoma legislature has introduced HB 1488, a bill creating an income tax credit for purchase of certain prosthetic devices.  This demonstrates that the state legislature recognizes that the cost of prosthetics is causing a hardship for many individuals.  It was referred to the Appropriations & Budget Committee.

Currently, restrictions are being imposed on insurance coverage for prosthetic devices.  We will continue to work to introduce a bill for prosthetic parity in the 2008 session! Click here to find out more.

Dear Representative ___,

I am writing in support of HB 1488, a bill to create a tax credit for the purchase of certain prosthetic devices.

There are nearly 2 million people in the United States living with limb loss. Those suffering from limb loss can and do regain their lives as productive members of society.  It is imperative, however that they are able to afford the prosthetic care they need to lead independent lives.

Currently, the cost of prosthetic devices prohibits many people from obtaining the care they need.  I support the mission of this bill --- to support individuals working to access the care they need to get back to work, to school and to living active lives.

Sincerely,

  Name, Address, Phone
