Since 2005, internationally recognized Physicians for Peace (PFP) has been providing amputee rehabilitation services in Haiti. Physicians for Peace volunteers are collecting the donations of prosthetics, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and crutches then refurbishing them as necessary. Through Physicians for Peace’s partner network of Healing Hands for Haiti and St. Vincent’s School for Handicapped Children (and others), both in the capital city of Port au Prince, prosthetic donations will go directly to longer term assistance for the countless tens of thousands who are disabled as a result of trauma and amputations. This drive is part of PFP’s “Walking Free” program, recognized around the world for providing prosthetics and other devices as well as training to prosthetists and physical therapists to help amputees live fully productive lives. |
