OPAF’s First Volley Receives Racquets from Billie Jean King

Langhorne, Pennsylvania – September 10, 2007 – The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund, Inc. (OPAF) and First Volley™ Tennis Clinics were recently selected to receive 120 tennis racquets for free distribution to participants of our adaptive tennis clinics.  The generous donation came from tennis legend Billie Jean King and World Team Tennis.  The racquets will be given to future First Volley clinic participants so that they may continue working on their new tennis skills well into the future.

First Volley is an adaptive tennis clinic for ambulatory players, aiming towards amputees and those with physical challenges who wish to play tennis, but choose not to sit in a wheelchair to do so.

“This donation means a great deal to First Volley and OPAF.  It serves as recognition from USTA of our position in the nation as a recognized top quality adaptive tennis program.  It also gives our First Volley participants the equipment to go forward with adaptive tennis and work to build the program.  We are so grateful to Ms. King for generosity to First Volley” said OPAF Executive Director, Robin Burton

Ms. King and World Team Tennis donated a total of 1000 racquets to adaptive programs across the nation.  First Volley was fortunate to receive a portion of those racquets, intended to build the game of tennis and give such programs a boost.  The next First Volley Clinics will be on Saturday, September 29 at Frog Hollow Racquet Club in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, followed by clinics in Tyler, Texas and Bloomfield, Michigan.
