IOWA: Help pass the House parity bill!
We must ensure that the bill comes up for a vote this year! Take action today!

Home

The Iowa parity bill should have passed last year!!   It passed out of the Senate.  It also passed out of committee in the House.  It was held up by the leadership for a floor vote.  What does that mean?  It means a few individuals prevented it from coming up for a vote.  We cannot let this happen again.

Help us pass parity into law in Iowa!  We have a lot of legislators on our side, but we need your help to make sure the bill comes up for a vote.

Take a few minutes to make a call and/or send an e-mail to the House Majority Leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy.  Tell him that the Iowa parity bill deserves to be voted on in the House this year!!

  • Rep. Kevin McCarthy (D-67) (House Majority Leader)

A sample phone message and letter are included below.  Please, take the time to send an email and make a phone call today!

SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE:  Hello.  My name is ____.  I reside in ____.  I am calling regarding House File 791, a bill requiring parity for insurance coverage of prosthetic devices.  This is an important bill for amputees in Iowa.  I urge Rep. McCarthy to bring House File 791 up for a vote in the House and to support this legislation.

SAMPLE LETTER:

Dear Representative McCarthy,

I am writing in regards to House File 791.  Introduced in 2007,  this bill requires that  prosthetic care be covered on par with other basic medical services.  This legislation is smart policy for the state of Iowa.

HF 791 offers the opportunity to save money in both the public and private sector by providing appropriate care for amputees. This enables individuals to remain employed, productive members of society. It also avoids the complications that result when someone is forced into a wheelchair or onto crutches for an extended period of time.

Several reports have been done on the cost of prosthetic parity bills.  They have found that the impact on monthly premiums would be very low --- between $0.12 and $0.25 per month. Additionally, there would be a savings in both the private and public sectors as a result of provision.  This is not only common sense, but also the right thing to do.

This bill passed through the Senate last year.  It also passed out of the House committee, but it was not given a floor vote before the session adjourned.  This bill not only deserves its day on the House floor, it should also be passed!

This bill will make certain that insured, working people can continue supporting their families.  I am urging you to give this important legislation its day on the House floor.  Please, put it up for a floor vote.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE
