The 2006 Amputees Across America (AAA) bike team makes a point to get around during their trip.  On July 8, the skies over Dallas were raining amputees when the riders completed several tandem skydives.  Each AAA skydive is dedicated to some of the amazing folks the riders meet during their cross-country trip.

 Amber Post Skydive
Partnered with an experienced professional, Amber agrees to skydive over Dallas.  She dedicated her dive, in part, to all the kids at the elementary school where she teaches in Macon, Georgia.

Upon landing, Amber (kneeling) is very thankful to be on the ground again.  Way to go, Amber!  The next AAA skydive will be in Quincy, Florida.

One of the most unique characters the riders have met this year was Sterling, an amputee therapy dog.  The AAA riders and Sterling share a common goal of showing folks that, big or small, human or dog, amputation doesn’t prevent living an active, fulfilling life.

Amputee Dog Amber is introduced to Sterling, an amputee therapy dog in Tyler, Texas.  The two shared a strong bond since both their amputations were the result of car accidents.
As the summer progresses, the temperatures rise and the AAA cyclists keep on riding.  Temperatures have been in the upper 80s and 90s, with high humidity.  While making sure they don’t get dehydrated, the riders endure the heat as they have ridden from Dallas, Texas, through Louisiana and Mississippi to Montgomery, Alabama, and into Florida.

Ruston LA Visit  Visitations are like an oasis in many more ways than just enjoying the AC.  The visits with individuals who are making amazing efforts in recovery and rehabilitation truly recharge the riders.

You can follow the AAA team through their Web site at www.amputeesacrossamerica.com.  Be sure to review their travel schedule and read their daily online journals.  The riders are nearing the end of their long journey as they get closer and closer to Vero Beach, Florida.
