SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE: Hello. My name is ____. I reside in ____. I am calling regarding Senate Bill 2386, a bill ensuring appropriate coverage for prosthetic care. This is an important bill for amputees in Illinois. I urge Senator ____ to support this bill when it comes before the Rules Committee.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Senator ____,

I am writing in regards to regarding Senate Bill 2386. This legislation is smart policy for the state of Illinois. SB 2386 requires that private insurance companies cover prosthetic care on par with the federal Medicare program. This enables individuals to remain employed, productive members of society. It also avoids the complications that result when someone is forced into a wheelchair or onto crutches for an extended period of time.

SB 2386 will ensure that the tragedy of a child losing a limb is not compounded by forcing that child to spend the rest of their childhood in a wheelchair when help is readily available.

Several reports have been done on the cost of prosthetic parity bills. They have found that the impact on monthly premiums would be very low --- between $0.12 and $0.25 per month. Additionally, there would be a savings in both the private and public sectors as a result of provision. This is not only common sense, but also the right thing to do.

This bill will make certain that insured, working people can continue supporting their families. I am urging you to please support this bill when it comes before the Rules Committee.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE
