BREAKING NEWS: The hearing in the Joint Committee on Insurance and Real Estate went very well. A very special thanks to Greg Grusse and his family! We have been assured that HB 5671 is dead (the bill with a $2,500 cap). The ACA is currently working with the committee to finalize the language that we will use to move forward in the process. We need your help to demonstrate support for prosthetic parity!
Please, take 5 minutes TODAY to get in touch with the co-chairs and the two vice chairs!
ü If you have time, reach out to the entire committee TODAY to express your support. Committee list (with emails): http://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/MemberList.asp?comm_code=INS&doc_type=
SAMPLE LETTER
Dear _____, I am writing today in regards to House Bill 5093. This bill creates a consistent standard for the provision of prosthetic benefits. This is not only the right thing to do, but it is also smart, economic policy.
If amputees are prevented from accessing prostheses, this increases health care costs due to secondary complications and forces many potential wage earners to leave their jobs reducing the tax base. The subsequent cost to the healthcare system far exceeds that of providing prosthetic care, while the lack of productivity places a huge burden on society. Also, studies have shown that appropriate prosthetic coverage would add only 12¢ to 35¢ per month to insurance premiums per member per month.
This bill will allow amputees in Connecticut to lead independent, productive lives! I am asking the Joint Committee on Insurance and Real Estate to hold a vote and move this bill forward in the legislative process this year. I am urging you to support this important legislation!
Sincerely, Name, Address, Phone
