In response to the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Katrina, the Christopher Reeve Foundation (CRF) announced today that it has earmarked $100,000 of Quality of Life funds for grants to nonprofit agencies that provide direct emergency relief services for people with disabilities displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The application submission deadline for the current cycle has been extended until September 30 to accommodate these special requests.  To relieve some of the burden of the application process, CRF urges eligible agencies to work directly with the Director of Quality of Life Grants, Donna Valente, who can be reached at (800) 539-7309, ext. 7211 or dvalente@ChristopherReeve.org.  For more information about the Quality of Life grants program, please go to the CRF website www.ChristopherReeve.org.

The Foundation’s Christopher & Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) has also prepared specialized information for people with paralysis displaced by Katrina as well as for people who find themselves in the new role of a caretaker. The PRC has a team of highly trained information specialists ready to respond to the needs of evacuees from the Gulf Coast, via telephone and email. The PRC would like to extend priority appointments for those individuals with paralysis who have been impacted by Katrina.  To set an appointment time, please call 1-800-539-7309 or visit our website at www.paralysis.org.
