In Your State: The ACA is working with local activists to start a campaign for prosthetic coverage in Our first organizing call was on December 14. The next call will be the second week in January 2007. Add introducing a prosthetic coverage bill to your New Year's resolution! To participate in the next call and campaign read below: YOU CAN HELP! Join the campaign: People like you are working to pass legislation in Contact us today to find out more about how you can get involved in the Spread the Word: Help us spread the word by sending a letter to your representative, explaining the need for legislation to protect access to prosthetic coverage. SAMPLE LETTER Dear Representative/Senator ____, In return for premiums paid for group health insurance, individuals expect to be covered for catastrophic illness or injury. Sadly, many of our people living with limb loss in Currently, six states have already passed legislation requiring prosthetic coverage -- CO, ME, NH, MA, CA and RI. Another 21 states are currently in the process of pushing for a mandate for prosthetic coverage. Obviously, the biggest concern anybody has about passing a new mandate is cost. People fear that big jumps in the cost of insurance will reduce access to health care. None of us want to see health insurance costs pushed beyond the reach of the average consumer. However, policy reports regarding prosthetic parity laws from One report found it to be as low as 12 cents a month per member. Furthermore, the analysis found that prosthetic provisions resulted in savings in the public and private sector, allowing people to return to work and be productive members of society.
