The Amputees Across America (AAA) riders enter Pennsylvania July 16 and spend the next couple weeks riding across the state and making eight visitations to various rehabilitation centers and hospitals in the greater Pittsburgh area, Altoona and Pleasant Gap among other towns.

The support, enthusiasm and encouragement the AAA riders receive keeps them charged as they ride up more and more hills…some that never seem to end! Each visitation location is so welcoming to the riders (even after the guys start to clown around!). Actually, the light-heartedness and good-natured antics of the AAA riders helps communicate their message that anything and everything is still possible after becoming an amputee. With banners of welcome, guest riders joining in the ride, and even fundraising events, the riders are overwhelmed with the support received.

As Bill Vanover, Jim DeLong and Joe Sapere, the AAA riders, cross Pennsylvania they enjoy visiting with the state’s residents as well as appreciating the state’s beautiful scenery. While the uphill rides become more challenging, the downhill rides are more exciting…the riders were clocked coasting downhill at 45 mph on the way to Mechanicsburg! As the heat index rises, the guys are sure to drink plenty of liquids…but were forced to take a break July 26 due to the extreme heat and humidity. It won’t keep them down for long!
