From July 25 to July 29, 50 children with limb loss and limb absence will be participating in the Amputee Coalition Youth Camp at Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio. The youth camp, in its 10th year, brings together children from across the country for 5 days of fun, team building and self-discovery. By the last day, the campers – who have often never met others with limb loss – realize that they are not alone and that they can do anything, despite their limb differences.
“This camp has been a tremendous confidence booster for children affected by limb loss,” says Youth Activities Program Coordinator Derrick Stowell, MS, CTRS. “It is amazing to see how this camp has helped them try new things and learn that they are not defined by their disability.”
Though the program provides a camp experience at no cost to the children or their families, this doesn’t mean that providing the camp is free. In fact, it is paid for through grants and donations from the Amputee Coalition’s supporters.
In 2010, the Amputee Coalition’s goal is to double the number of participants from 50 to 100. However, to do so, we need your help. If you’d like to make a profound impact on the lives of children with limb differences, we ask you to donate now! It’s your chance to make a difference in a child’s life!
