To help make our federal campaign a success, we just hired a new staff person! The Amputee Coalition of America just filled the position of Federal Campaign Field Organizer. The Field Organizer will work with our local volunteers and members to support the federal campaign through grassroots outreach and organizing initiatives.
We are also looking to bring in an intern this fall. We have an exciting opportunity for a bright individual to work on a national campaign in a diverse and laid back office. This is the ideal internship for those that seek work experience in public policy, national campaigns, public relations/media communications and general non-profit management.
In 2006, the ACA launched a national campaign focused on healthcare legislation. As part of the campaign, we opened a second office in downtown Washington, D.C focused on advocacy and legislation. Currently, we have an opportunity for a hard working individual.
The ACA’s advocacy department is expanding and this is a great opportunity to join our exciting Advocacy Internship program. We have experienced great success with the passage of seven parity bills. An additional twenty-eight states are working to advance legislation. In addition, we are launching a federal bill in 2008. The Washington, D.C. office has a thriving volunteer program and we host 3 annual special events. The intern will work with the Advocacy staff to assist with the annual fundraiser.
Reports to: National Advocacy Specialist & National Advocacy Director
Responsibilities: The intern will assist in most aspects of the state campaign and some federal work experience will be gained. However, the primary duties will be online communications, outreach and membership management for the state initiatives.
Communications
-Assist with the message, design and management of our Web site and blog
-Identify and utilize a variety of online tools to educate and motivate activists
-Help with the design and implementation of activist communications including E-Advocacy alerts and management and online communities (YouTube, Facebook and Myspace, etc.).
Organizing
-Work with the National Advocacy Specialist to engage, recruit and mobilize activist working on state campaign committees
-Work with the National Advocacy Specialist to cultivate and build the Washington, DC volunteer program
- Help implement outreach strategies to local hospitals, support groups and coalition partners
Administration
- Provide administrative support
- Process requests for information and materials
- Enter data from petitions in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- PC literacy skills required: MS Outlook, Word and basic Excel
- Solid working knowledge of building online communities
- Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team
- A commitment to human rights and diversity.
