Vermont Advocate of Prosthetic Insurance Parity Receives Amputee Coalition of America Advocate of the Year Award

Knoxville, TN, October 29, 2008 – Eileen Casey of South Burlington, Vermont has received the Amputee Coalition of America’s Advocate of the Year award given annually to individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to advancing the quality of life for people living with limb loss.

“Eileen Casey’s outstanding work on behalf of amputees, building support and advancing legislation that requires health insurance companies to cover prosthetic care as they do all other essential medical care is truly exceptional,” said Kendra Calhoun, President and CEO of the Amputee Coalition of America.”

Casey lost a leg to cancer and subsequently learned that her employer-paid health insurance would not cover the cost of the prosthetic leg she required.

“Eileen became a committed advocate for all amputees in the fight for meaningful health insurance coverage for prosthetic care,” said Ms. Calhoun.
