Knoxville, Tennessee - Because most amputees and professionals do not have the time or resources to stay current with news and studies dealing with limb loss, the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) and the National Limb Loss Information Center (NLLIC) are pleased to offer several information solutions, our PubMed© abstracts and Topic of the Month e-publications.   The NLLIC is here to make information available and deliverable to your e-mail inbox, so that you can keep up on news and research at your own pace.

PubMed© Abstracts

As medical research on limb loss and limb differences is produced and published at incredible rates, it can be difficult for individuals to keep abreast of emerging studies, techniques and technology.  PubMed©, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides abstracts for most medical research being published.  Each month, the NLLIC indexes the relevant new abstracts available via PubMed©, which cite the article and link directly to the PubMed© abstract online.  And don’t forget that the NLLIC is happy to provide the full text version of any article by request.  With this tool, medical professionals will particularly benefit by being able to see available research in a timely manner.

Topic of the Month

Whether you are coping with amputation or limb differences on a personal level or providing healthcare services for amputees, amputation and limb differences are topics that span across a broad spectrum of information needs.  Popular topics that need to be addressed include practical, emotional, physical, financial and scientific information. Each month a new listing of NLLIC resources dedicated to a specific topic of interest is published.  Recent topics include cancer, funding, pain, advocacy and travel.  Each Topic of the Month also includes a variety of available formats for the subject, including books, articles, PubMed© abstracts, videos and Web sites. The Topic of the Month is a wonderful place to start when gathering information on a particular subject relating to limb loss.  This listing is also an excellent tool for support groups to use in their meetings as well.
