Get Ready for National Family Caregivers Month in November November 2009 celebrates National Family Caregivers Month, a time to thank, support, educate and empower family caregivers – those individuals providing care to loved ones living with chronic illness, disability or the frailties of old age. Mending Limbs Organization to Hold Second Annual Benefit Concert Event to raise awareness of need for adequate prosthetic insurance coverage for amputees	The ACA held a holiday party for local volunteers in their Washington, DC office on December 20th. The party was an opportunity to share updates on recent successes in the national parity efforts. It was also the official launch of our new and improved volunteer program. The volunteer program will bring together ACA members, healthcare providers, coalition partners, family members, friends and anyone interested in volunteering can offer a couple of hours of their time to help the Action Plan for People with Limb Loss (APPLL). Our goal is to make prosthetic coverage a reality across the United States. One of the most important elements of organizing for success is the demonstrated support of individuals who will benefit from and support this important legislation. As our representatives gear up for the 110th Congress, we will be offering monthly volunteer nights the third Wednesday of each month. The new volunteer program will enable us to provide additional resources to the 21 states that are poised currently working to advance prosthetic coverage legislation. The party was also an opportunity to thank two of our most active volunteers for their commitment to the ACA’s advocacy work. Louis Wolf and Jessica Ciacco were both given special awards in recognition of their continued dedication to the ACA. Wolf and Ciacco both volunteered many hours of their time in 2006 to help make the campaign a success. The party proved to be a great success and an appropriate launch to our new and exciting volunteer program! Thank you to Nascott Rehabilitation and Chicken Out Rotisserie for their generous support!
