The Amputee Coalition 2015 Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp was our largest camp yet, with 110 campers, age 10-17, and 36 amputee counselors. Campers represented 30 states across the U.S., Canada and Germany.

During the six-day camp, campers were able to challenge themselves in ways they may not have had the opportunity to while at home or in their communities. Many “first” experiences happen at camp, and that allows for a lifetime of memories. For many of the campers, it’s an opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones.

This year we were able to witness some of the campers experience their first time away from home and away from their families. For some, this can be a huge fear and obstacle to overcome. One camper in particular was able to face that fear, and at the end of the camp experience turned tears of fear into tears of joy as she left for home with a new-found self-confidence.The Amputee Coalition Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp gives these youths a chance to become self-assured and self-reliant, as well as the opportunity to ask for information and share their experiences.

Camp dates for 2016 will be announced in October, and applications will be available online in January on the Amputee Coalition Web site.
